Connecting XBox Systems

* This is an old article but still applies to today's XBOX 360 and XBOX One.

Connecting XBoxes together

We have had many questions on how to connect Xbox systems together or network them. So we thought we would write a quick article on just how to do that.

When it comes to connecting Xbox systems together there are two ways to accomplish this. One is to use a crossover cable between two Xbox systems. Microsoft sells what is called an Xbox System Link Cable that they sell for $19.99. Essentially, this is just a crossover cable which we sell for as little as $3.95 depending on the length of cable you need. Using a crossover cable is for only connecting two Xbox systems together. If you need to connect more than two then you need a hub or a switch to connect two or more Xbox systems together. In this case you will need a switch (or hub) and a straight-through network cable for each Xbox system. Then you plug the network cable from the Xbox to the switch (or hub). If you use Xbox Live then you can connect your Xbox system to a broadband router with a straight-through network cable.
